Somehow, we wound up discussing Tamagotchi over lunch. Mine was a cat, and had a yellow case with pink buttons. My 7th grade teacher (whose name I have only just realized I no longer remember) had to institute martial law because of those little beepy toys. It was the first instance of widespread electronic proliferation in our middle school. Most of the kids didn't have cell phones yet. What a weird cultural turning point.
Anyway, today, Wikipedia told me that, there had been at least 76 million Tamagotchis sold worldwide as of 2010. 76 million!
